Council policies and codes

Code of conduct and confidentiality

Council has adopted a “Code of Conduct” which applies to all employees and Councilors.  The code provides for standards of conduct expected and confidentiality requirements.  Council supports the principles of EEO and has adopted an Equal Employment Opportunity Policy.  All employees are expected to operate in accordance with these codes and policies.

Child Protection Policy

Council has adopted a Child Protection Policy, with the object of the policy being for Council to provide a protective environment for children using Council services in accordance with relevant legislation. Before an offer of employment is made, employment screening to ensure suitability to work with children will be conducted.

A ‘Prohibited Person’ is someone who has been convicted of a serious offence as defined under the Child Protection (Prohibition) Act 1998.Go to top of page

Privacy & Personal Information Protection Act, State Records Act, Local Govt. Act.

When undertaking Council business all requests, receiving, processing and handling of information must be undertaken in accordance with these Acts and Regulations together with Councils policies procedures and other agreed practices.

Occupational Health and Safety

Council has adopted an Occupational Health and Safety statement.  All employees are expected to operate in accordance with the statement.  Council provides a safe and smoke free working environment under the OHS Act.  All employees are expected to maintain and improve a safe working environment.  All policies and competency details are available for viewing at Council’s Administration Centre.Go to top of page

General information

Computer System and Corporate Systems – Council uses the Authority Local Government Information System to manage Councils Property and Financial information.  Council PC’s run Windows XP Professional sourcing data from Windows 2003 Servers.  Other servers within Council run the Linux Enterprise Operating System.  Council staff use Microsoft Office for miscellaneous tasks, and Outlook connected to Microsoft Exchange for email.  Users also have access to a Geographical Information System providing mapping and data matching.
